  1. I’m 70yrs old and an Irishman . I accidentally found John days before he left life behind. John had the gift of telling real stories and poetry in his music and songs. I believe John was and still is America’s gift to the world . He could speak to the centre of our humanity in happy and sometimes sad lyrics & music. I remember him and am happy. I listen to his songs most days out of love for his gift to us and respect for the man he was.🇨🇮

  2. This is my first time hearing this song, or knowing who John Prine is at all. I didn’t even know he’d died until today. I’m 23 and I’m here because of the band Viagra Boys who did a cover of this with Amy Taylor, from Amyl and the Sniffers.
I really liked their cover, so I came to find the original and I found this.
He seemed like a wonderful man, this is a lovely song, and I’m sad I never got to appreciate him while he was still alive.
Many, many people loved him very much and so many of these comments on this video alone are proof of how many lives he touched.
I’m excited to go and listen to more of his songs and find out more about him now that I’ve finally found him.
Thank you Viagra Boys and Amy Taylor for bringing me here.
Thank you John Prine for sharing your talent with the world. RIP.

  3. I kinda wish for just these minutes with Prine and DeMent singing , that I was the base player in that background band. That smile on his face knew this was something special. Bet anything he remembers every moment.

  4. The greatest American music story teller of all time. I miss John. An honest to God American treasure. I had the pleasure and privilege of seeing him in concert 5 times over the years. I wish I could have seen him 500 times.

  5. Have always been aware of John Prine and heard a lot of his major hits, but never really just listened to his song catalog. John Prine folk know he is a story teller. Found that out myself. Missed a whole lot of good songs/tales by not listening sooner. A belated Thank You MR. John Prine. If you were of English birth you would have been Knighted for your accomplishments. Hope all is well in your Heaven. Thank You for all of the good music/songs and stories. Rest well Sir John Prine.

  6. I had only heard the Viagra Boys version recently but this popped up in the suggestion and I hit it faster than lightning, glad I did. John has such a great voice as well as being a great guitarist and I remember a lot of his earlier works, so was surprised to hear him tell the story about this song. Really well done. R.I.P. John Prine
